"In fidelity to the vision of Father McGivney, may you continue to seek new ways of being a leaven of the Gospel in the world and a spiritual force for the renewal of the Church in holiness, unity and truth."
-- Pope John Paul II, welcoming Knights of Columbus Board of Directors to Rome in October, 2003
The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 13,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.
The St. Nicholas Council of the Knights of Columbus was founded in 1990, and chartered in 1991. Our Council participates in several of the Supreme and State Council activities, including the Keep Christ in Christmas cards sales, the Seminarian Support Charity, wheelchair donations, basketball free-throw competition, and the fundraiser for support of the mentally handicapped.
On the local level, our Council is very active in supporting our clergy, our parish, its ministries and our community. You will see our brothers hosting the pancake breakfasts and coffee and doughnuts, the garage sale to fund SRE, selling roses to support Birthright, collecting canned foods for South County Outreach, running the blood drives, keeping vigil for adoration of the Eucharist and assisting with several parish activities.
Through these and other programs, our Council raises several thousands of dollars and volunteers several thousand rewarding hours every year, for the benefit of our church and other worthy charities. Just as important, our social activities and fraternal spirit offers members and their families an opportunity to make meaningful and lasting friendships with other parishioners.
The Knights welcome all practicing Catholic men, over the age of 18 to join our council.
Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.
