Members of the Bereavement Ministry at St. Nicholas strive to offer support and consolation to parishioners who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The death of a loved one is a confusing and overwhelming time for family members. There are many decisions and arrangements to be made while in a state of anxiety and grief.

The Bereavement minister’s primary role is to be present to the bereaved with compassion and concern reflective of that of Our Lord.

Each loss of a family member is unique to the family. When the parish office notifies the Bereavement Ministry of a death, we call the family to offer condolences and assistance in planning a wake, funeral or memorial service. Family members are invited and encouraged to participate in the Liturgy.

The Bereavement ministry does not end after the funeral. Sympathy cards and personal phone calls are made to each bereaved family. The Parish also offers a Memorial Mass, celebrated in November, for parishioners who have died in the past year.
“Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
